Abu Dhabi’s Future Health and MIT Solve Announce Global Winners of Inaugural Future Health Challenge with 393 Submissions from 68 Countries

Geneva: The Future Health initiative, spearheaded by Abu Dhabi in collaboration with MIT Solve, has unveiled the winners of the inaugural Future Health Challenge: Building Anticipatory Health Systems through Population Sensing. This announcement was made during a live global pitching session held at a Future Health event on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva.

The Challenge received an impressive 393 submissions from 68 countries, highlighting a growing global commitment to Abu Dhabi’s vision of advancing predictive and inclusive health systems. This initiative aims to foster anticipatory, prevention-focused models of care, leveraging data and technology to enhance population health insights.

Recognizing Innovative Solutions

The winning teams were acknowledged for their technology-driven solutions that facilitate early detection of health risks, thereby enabling quicker and more informed decision-making within health systems.

ThinkMD, Australia | $200,000 (Dh734,000), Winner
ThinkMD provides frontline health workers with mobile clinical decision-support tools that enhance triage, treatment, and referral processes. This platform transforms routine care interactions into real-time population health signals. Currently, over 9,000 frontline workers utilize ThinkMD across 885 facilities. Its effectiveness as an early warning system was notably demonstrated when it identified symptom patterns that preceded a cholera outbreak in Zambia.

Vector Control Innovations, United States | $50,000 (Dh183,657), Distinguished Finalist
VectorCam employs AI-enabled mosquito surveillance to detect shifting vector risks earlier, allowing health systems to target interventions proactively before outbreaks escalate. Field evaluations have shown significant improvements in both efficiency and data quality, with data completeness rising from approximately 60% to over 90%.

Huna, Brazil | $50,000 (Dh183,657), Distinguished Finalist
Huna utilizes AI to analyze routine blood test data, identifying individuals at elevated cancer risk earlier and guiding them into appropriate screening and care pathways. In Brazil, its pilots have screened over 500,000 patients, leading to the detection of hundreds of cancer cases that might have otherwise been diagnosed later, when treatment is more complex and costly.

Championing High-Potential Talent

The Future Health Challenge, conducted in partnership with MIT Solve, is part of a year-round program aimed at identifying and supporting high-potential talent globally. This initiative connects innovators with funding, partnerships, and pathways to scale solutions that promote longer, healthier lives.

Dr. Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Health and Life Sciences Sector at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, emphasized the importance of early detection in health systems. She stated that health systems often identify risks only after they have progressed to illness, complicating treatment and worsening outcomes. The winning solution, ThinkMD, exemplifies how enhanced frontline decision-making and real-time health insights can facilitate earlier risk identification and response. She noted that the next priority is to test and scale these solutions in real-world settings.

Dr. Al Mannaei also highlighted that through Future Health, Abu Dhabi aims to share its approach to anticipatory, data-driven healthcare globally, ensuring that innovators have access to pathways that deliver real-world impact.

Hala Hanna, Executive Director of MIT Solve, remarked on the urgency and opportunity presented by the solutions emerging from this Challenge. She noted that by connecting innovators with policymakers, funders, and implementers through platforms like Future Health, it is possible to accelerate locally grounded solutions capable of delivering scalable impact.

Dr. Jackie Rabec, Co-Founder of ThinkMD, expressed excitement about receiving the award and the opportunity to scale their impact. He indicated that the next phase of growth will focus on expanding into priority markets such as Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda, and Somalia, validating their next-generation multimodal conversational interface, and enhancing their self-care product to empower citizens with health intelligence.

Future Health’s Global Initiative

Future Health serves as a global initiative by Abu Dhabi, convening stakeholders from innovation, policy, and investment sectors to foster collaboration and support the development and scaling of solutions aimed at improving health outcomes worldwide. This platform reinforces Abu Dhabi’s commitment to facilitating global partnerships and advancing health solutions.

Representatives from finalist, semi-finalist, and selected Honourable Mention teams will have the opportunity to showcase their innovations at the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit, scheduled for October 20-22, 2026. This summit will provide a platform for teams to engage with global policymakers, investors, and health leaders, aiding in the next phase of development and adoption.
